A recent survey undertaken highlights significant concerns about the environment and scepticism around company net-zero pledges.
The survey, conducted by FuelCell Energy, Inc in May, revealed the lack of confidence people have in company climate pledges and carbon offsetting along with how we can make the biggest impact to tackle climate change.
‘This research gives us a snapshot of the concerns top of mind for people today as they think about the environment and energy sources,’ said Mark Feasel, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer.
Other key findings from the survey, undertaken by 1000 US citizens over the age of 25, include:
- 78% fear that a rise in the consumption of nonrenewable energy will lead to more environmental issues.
- 32% believe that manufacturing causes the most pollution, whilst agriculture, construction, and transportation were less of a concern.
- 58% feel that company net-zero pledges are empty promises and will only come to fruition if regulated by government.
- 41% responded that a companies approach should be more than just offsetting carbon emissions and instead achieving authentic solutions.
- 87% showed concern regarding the Russia – Ukraine conflict and the impact it could have on the availability and pricing of energy resources.
‘What’s nearly universal is that there are significant concerns about the state of energy today, and the need for reliability and energy security,’ concludes Mark Feasel.
