Global technology firm Hitachi Energy has been recognised with a gold award for sustainability in 2023 by business sustainability rating provider EcoVadis.
The award by EcoVadis demonstrates the company’s dedication to optimising its operations for sustainability and enhancing the reliability, flexibility, and security of the world’s energy system and places Hitachi Energy in the top 5% of all industries and the top 1% in its industry.
The rating acknowledges Hitachi Energy’s commitment to global sustainability issues, namely people, planet, peace, and partnerships. Each pillar is reflected in the company’s Sustainability 2030 plan. The plan aligns with eight of the 17 UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, from good health and wellbeing, to responsible consumption and production, and focuses on contributing to a more sustainable planet and society.
By the year 2030, Hitachi Energy has set a goal of reducing CO2 equivalent emissions by 50% along the entire value chain, as compared to a 2019 baseline. In addition to this, the company aims to achieve a 50% reduction in waste disposal, as compared to the 2013 baseline.
Hitachi Energy’s CEO, Claudio Facchin, stated that the EcoVadis Gold Medal is a recognition of the company’s dedication to socially and environmentally responsible business practices, which aim to advance a sustainable energy future for all.
Facchin emphasised that sustainability is “ingrained in the company’s purpose, and the high rating offers additional assurance to customers and partners regarding Hitachi Energy’s sustainability performance as a top technology provider.
Hitachi Energy understands that the energy sector is going through a significant transformation, and the pace of change is increasing. As a result, the company’s emphasis on sustainability is critical for its growth and long-term viability. As a leading technology provider, Hitachi Energy works closely with its customers and partners to support a sustainable energy future, not just for the current generation but also for future generations to come.”
