What is London Climate Action Week?
Launched in 2019 by London Mayor Sadiq Khan, London Climate Action Week has become the largest independent climate gathering in Europe. The week-long event was established following the declaration of a climate emergency in London, prompted by scientific reports highlighting the urgency of climate change.
The week brings together business leaders, NGOs, and politicians to explore climate solutions and aims to position London as a leading example of how society as a whole can shape and drive climate action.
What are the themes of this year’s Climate Action Week?
The four themes for this year’s Climate Action Week are:
- Accelerating the global clean economy
- Delivering fair, inclusive, and just climate transitions
- Expanding networks for Whole of Society Action
- Creating a greener London with and for Londoners
Where is London Climate Action Week taking place?
Events will be held throughout London, with notable talks occurring at the ExCel Centre, along with renowned institutions like The Natural History Museum, the RSA, and Guildhall.

What measures is London taking to combat climate change?
The Mayor’s office has implemented various initiatives to combat climate change in London. The city aims to achieve zero-carbon status by 2030, and all buses are targeted to be zero-emission by 2034.
Furthermore, the Mayor has expanded the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) to reduce air pollution in the city and intends to retrofit homes for ultra-low carbon emissions.
London is also a member of the C40, a climate-focused network of mayors of almost 100 large cities, supported by Google’s 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy (CFE) for Cities program,
The program helps develop and implement strategies, practices and tools to enable cities to achieve 24/7 carbon-free energy (CFE) and support cities seeking to lead in the energy transition.
