CDP, the global non-profit that runs the world’s environmental disclosure framework, has appointed Sherry Madera as its new Chief Executive Officer. Madera, who is currently SVP of Public Policy at Mastercard, will begin her new role on October 1, 2023.
Madera has held senior positions at several leading organisations in the environmental and sustainability space. Prior to Mastercard, she was Chief Industry & Government Affairs Officer at the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), and is currently the Chair of The Future of Sustainable Data Alliance (FoSDA), the “voice of the global sustainable data ecosystem.”

In her new role, Madera will be responsible for leading CDP’s overall mission to accelerate climate action by providing companies, cities, states, and regions with the information they need to manage and disclose their environmental impact. She will also be tasked with growing CDP’s global reach and impact.
“I am honoured to be joining CDP at such a critical time,” said Madera. “The world is facing an unprecedented climate crisis, and CDP is playing a vital role in helping companies and governments take action. I am excited to work with the CDP team to build on the organisation’s success and help make a real difference in the fight against climate change.”
Madera succeeds former CEO Paul Simpson, who was a co-founder of CDP and served as CEO for 21 years until June 2022, and replaces interim CEO Jamie Neil, who has driven a programme of significant operational improvement within CDP over the past year.
Paul Dickinson, Founder, and Chair of CDP, said: “I’m delighted that Sherry will be joining CDP as CEO. Sherry has the perfect mix of skills to build on our success and lead CDP into a new era of environmental leadership at a critical time in the fight against climate change.”
CDP’s ongoing mission
CDP is a global non-profit that helps companies, cities, states, and regions disclose their environmental impact. The data gathered by CDP is used by investors, governments, and other stakeholders to make informed decisions about environmental risk and opportunity.
In 2022, over 18,700 companies representing around 50% of global market capitalisation and over 1,100 cities, states, and regions disclosed information through CDP on climate change, deforestation, and water security. The 2023 disclosure period is due to close for scoring at the end of July.
CDP is focused on solving the problem of fragmentation in sustainable disclosures and ensuring clear and concise reporting data. As such, the non-profit is planning to incorporate the ISSB climate-related disclosure standard into its global environmental disclosure platform.
