Ring Container Technologies, a leader in the plastic container manufacturing industry, has announced that the company received a gold medal sustainability rating from EcoVadis.
The US-based manufacturer improved its score against the platform’s criteria by 20 points, taking its ranking from silver to gold and putting it among the top 5% of all companies assessed.
“EcoVadis’ trusted, standard rankings reinforce Ring’s commitment to investing in making products and innovations more sustainable and eco-friendly,” said Brian Smith, Ring Container President and chief operating officer. “The progress made within the company throughout the last year is evidence of that. Our customers rely on Ring not only for their shipments on time and in full, but also for sustainable solutions. We are proud to deliver on that.”
EcoVadis is a leading platform for environmental, social, and ethical performance ratings for global supply chains. It aims to measure the quality of a company’s sustainability management system through its policies, actions, and results.
Founded in 2007, the evaluation body has grown to be one of the most reputable providers of business sustainability ratings, creating a global network of more than 100,000+ rated companies, including Samsung Biologics, Epson and VMware.
The assessment examines 21 sustainability criteria, which are divided into four themes: environment, labour & human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement.
In July, Ring released its first ESG report, titled ‘Pursuit of Excellence 2021’. Among the results highlighted, the business plans to reduce energy intensity by some 20% on average across all its plants by 2028 from 2018 levels, pledged through the U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Plants Program.
Furthermore, across the country, 100% of plants have committed to Operation Clean Sweep to keep plastic debris out of waterways. The program is a voluntary initiative aimed at improving awareness, promoting best practices, and providing guidance and tools to support companies from the plastics value chain.
